You probably already know this, but I am going to remind you... in case you forgot.
If you purchase meat at the grocery store after the weekend is over (usually Monday, though it might be Tuesday this coming week because of Labor Day), you can get it at a discounted rate.
Last week I got Rump Roast and Chuck Roast at about $2.50 pound! I felt like I was stealing, buying up all the packages that were left. Not only is it a great Crock Pot meal on these warm days, but it is an excellent alternative to lunch meat in Paul's lunch! (As you might recall, we have cut almost all lunchmeat out of our diet in the past month). AND, at these prices it is much cheaper than lunchmeat, which is at least $5/pound around here.
Just thought that I would pass this money-saving tip on to you!
(P.S - I froze my meat using a Food Saver. We have been packaging all sorts of meats in Food Saver bags for about 6 years now! I highly recommend vacuum sealing your meats!)

Good tip. We always stock up on all of the sale/clearance meat, as it will be stored in the freezer at home. I have gone to Kroger and filled my cart with clearance meat, and very good on sale meat, such as whole chickens at 88 cents/lb, chuck roasts marked down, I get funny looks, because I have a cart filled with only meat, but heh, I also get a full freezer, and a good deal.
However, meat purchases will not be in my future for some time, our steer was slaughtered 11 days ago, he is being butchered today, and will be ready for pick up tomorrow, hanging weight was almost 700lbs, so I think we will have plenty for the next year.

You crack me up! We had a long weekend with my folks, and I am having a hard time getting back into the "routine" of things. I started a blog post last night, but was too tired to put it together.
Today we are headed to Tiger Town to look for used double-wides. Another busy day... lots of calls to be made and things to arrange. But, hopefully, I will not be homeless when the snow falls ; )
